How did you meet your (now) husband?
We met two years ago in Cancun. I was on a girls trip and he was on a guys trip. I had plans to move out to NYC after college and he happened to be from New Jersey! We dated long distance for about six months until we decided that it made sense for him to move out here first, so he did!

Do you have a proposal story?
Eddie asked me to show him some rings that I liked on Pinterest. As I was showing him, I asked his opinion on what type he liked. He pulled the box out of his pocket and said, "actually, I've already kind of picked one." Then he popped the question!

What was your favorite memory from your wedding day?
Seeing my groom for the first time as I rounded the corner to walk down the aisle. His face said it all. At the end of the day, it's all about that look from your groom.

What advice would you give to other brides?
At the end of the day, you are married to your best friend and if the color of the writing on your wedding favors doesn't match the rest of the decor (guilty), you will still be married to your best friend. Relax and enjoy every little second. It will be a blur and go by so fast, so try to slow down and remember to be in the moment.

How did you meet your (now) husband?
We actually met through Match.com. I signed up for a free trial when I received an email from Sean, but I couldn't actually open his email unless I paid for a subscription. I decided to go for it so I could read his email - I'm happy to say my $30 investment paid off very well!

Where did you draw your inspiration/ideas from?

Pinterest - I don't know how people planned a wedding without it! My mom was also very helpful throughout the whole process. She had lots of great ideas that were also inspired by Pinterest and by her experience from my sister's weddings. She actually put together the ceremony flowers and reception centerpieces all by herself. I couldn't have done it without her!

What was your favorite memory from your wedding day?

Marrying Sean of course! Aside from that, it was being surrounded by my family and so many friends. Many of our guests are not from Kansas City and made long trips to come to celebrate with us. It meant so much to have all of those people surrounding us and to celebrate with people that I hadn't seen in quite a while.

What advice would you give to other brides?

I'll give the same advice I received from several other people - enjoy your wedding day and take lots of mental pictures. So many people said that their wedding day just flew by and that they didn't really remember a lot of what happened. I took that to heart and made sure to make a conscious effort to focus on what was happening at every moment.

REAL BRIDE: Sarah

Brady & Sarah Madsen

Just hearing Sarah share details about her wedding day confirm the feeling of family that they incorporated. From the shoes she wore for the ceremony that were her great-great aunt's wedding shoes to the cherry pie they cut that was made by her grandpa and included a topper that was passed down from her great-grandparents. The bride and groom were even dressed to look like them! The little personal touches throughout are sure to make you smile. Family and love truly was what their wedding day was all about.

Do you have a proposal story?
It just so happens to be one of my favorite stories! It was February of 2014, but I still want to cry when I think about it because it was so awesome. It was a Saturday, and the weather was absolutely beautiful - 70 degrees in February! We went to breakfast at Harry's Country Club in the River Market. I was pumped because they had Boulevard Chocolate Ale on tap, which I had no idea was going to rank at the bottom of the day's excitement. We went for a walk in Loose Park and on our second lap he pulled me aside and asked me to marry him. I said "of course!!!" followed by a "are you serious?!?!" several times too. After the proposal Brady informed me we were traveling to Odessa to celebrate with our families and once we arrived it was going to be a little scavenger hunt at all of our stops - including both of our parents and grandparents houses. We finally got to my parents house and I opened the door to a cheering crowd of people, including my dad who was supposed to still be on the East Cost for work at the time. Brady had, on top of everything else, planned a surprise engagement party with our family and friends. Our families had decorated beautifully, there was food and drinks, gifts, and even a cake! It was the best thing in the world to celebrate such an exciting moment with people who are so special to us. I wish I could go back and relive that whole day 100 times!

Tell me a little about your wedding day.
Blue is both mine and Brady's favorite color so we went with navy blue and gold with some blush pink and burgundy accents. Being in October we got to incorporate giant fall mums, pumpkins, hedge apples, gourds, etc. For the reception we had LOTS of candles, which made the big space feel really warm and intimate. Some of my favorite details were the food truck, a gorgeous "selfie booth" built by my aunt and uncle, wedding pictures of our families, glow bracelets/necklaces, Ice Pop popsicles for our guests, and instead of a traditional guestbook we used a big coffee table photography book about Kansas City that we can keep out and enjoy all of the time. My mom and Brady's mom surprised me by incorporating a really special touch into my gown. A photo of my grandma and a piece of soft blue fabric from Brady's grandma's favorite PJs were sewn into the lining. We were both super close with our grandmothers who passed away prior to the wedding day so it was really special to include them into the day.

What made you decide to get married on this particular date?
Full disclosure - it kind of came down to availability of our food truck, haha. Bottom line, we knew we wanted 2015, we knew we wanted early fall, and everything came together perfectly for October 10th. 

Where did you draw your inspiration/ideas from?
I scanned Pinterest a lot for ideas. I especially loved it because my mom, mother-in-law, sister, and friends could all follow my board and be a part of the process, which was huge for me. I also pulled inspiration from a few extremely fun weddings I have been to over the last few years.

What was your favorite moment from your wedding day?
I have thought about this a lot, and I'm really not sure how to narrow it down to just one. The entire wedding week is just one giant favorite memory. There were so many great moments - with my husband, with our families, and with our friends. It was just the best, and there's not one thing I would change.

What advice would you give to other brides?
Don't feel like you have to follow any set of rules. Decide what's important and unimportant, and let that guide your decisions (and your budget). And don't forget that on the other side of this big wedding day there are a million more happy days with your person!

REAL BRIDE: Meg

Meg is one of those woman who can instantly bring a smile to your face. When I had the pleasure of meeting her for the first time I knew her wedding was going to be intimate, personal, and well - perfect. And their wedding day was truly that.

Theme: Fairytale Forest

Where did you draw your inspiration/ideas from?

My ring is an antique 1930's sapphire and mismatched tiny antique diamond band. He picked it out himself, told no one, and proposed nearly a year and a half later. Everything about it is fantastic, which is why it inspired our wedding day - along with hand lettering, old books, green everywhere (everything was outside), and lace. We were in nature, so we wanted to feel like it.

Do you have a proposal story?

Greg is from Montana and having lived in Colorado for some time myself, the mountains are a special piece of our relationship. Greg proposed in the middle of a field in the mountains near Red Lodge, Montana, with not another soul in sight. He also had a broken ankle at the time, so the getting down on a walking boot was pretty memorable. Also memorable was my repeated, "this is so weird, this is so weird!" before I could muster a yes. We had been together six years.

What was your favorite memory from your wedding day?
Truly just the feeling of utter contentment in the present moment, every moment. It's amazing how infrequently we experience that in everyday life. I'm working on trying to capture more of that emotion.

What advice would you give to other brides?
I never gave a realistic thought to what exactly my wedding would look like before getting engaged, and the idea of planning a wedding in general was overwhelming, almost a chore. As soon as we got engaged, I just wanted to stay in that magical secret place that only the two of us existed in for as long as possible because it's really the only time in your life you'll get to. I wish I would have stayed there a little longer before diving into logistics. I also recommend communicating more than you think you need to with your to-be-spouse, your siblings, your mom, your vendors, whoever. They can only know and understand and help with the words you speak out loud.

REAL BRIDE: Audrey

There is a special place in my heart for Audrey, who was Something White's very first bride. Hearing about all of the details around this destination wedding leading up to the big day left me anxious to see how beautiful the wedding of Troy and Audrey would be. They did not fail to deliver, so brace yourselves to get a glimpse of their perfect day in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

 How did you meet your (now) husband?
Troy and I crossed paths while both attending Northwest Missouri State University in 2005 where he was a Bearcat football player and I was a Bearcat cheerleader. Talk about the stereotypical college relationship! Well, if we would have actually dated in college that is. I first met Troy at a party with a group of my girlfriends and one of them introduced us after I commented on how good looking he was. Troy says the first time he remembers seeing me was in the weight room, which is no surprise since I am a fitness competitor in my free time. From there we began a friendship and nothing more. I like to say he was the "great white buffalo" of college - the guy no girl could tame. 

After graduating in 2009, I ventured back home for two years to work before moving to Omaha to begin graduate school. Troy stayed at NWMSU to finish his MBA. About the time I moved to Omaha, Troy had decided to move to Denver, but before each of us set off to our new homes, we both ended up back in Maryville, MO for the big homecoming game. Everything after that is history. From there, we endured a year and a half of a long distance relationship, one move from Denver to Omaha, a three month stint in Virginia for graduate research, and a year of finally being together before the proposal. I had finally, somewhat, tamed the "great white buffalo."

What was your favorite memory from your wedding day?
I would have to say my favorite memory was getting to watch our wedding come to life throughout the day. The girls and I arrived at the venue at 8:30 AM to begin hair and make-up and were able to watch the construction/decorating process as it was happening, which was amazing! 

During the actual wedding my favorite was just getting to sit at our sweetheart table with Troy and watch all of our guests have a fantastic time during dinner. The lighting was absolutely amazing and it looked like each table was glowing with happiness. Troy and I just kept looking at each other and saying how amazing everything was and how lucky we were!

What advice would you give to other brides?
Do not let anyone rain on your parade or force you into a decision you do not want to make. There were a few things that really made me upset during the planning process and they didn't get any better until I had to put my foot down. The biggest example was the backlash we received after choosing to do a destination wedding. It seemed like everyone had something to say about our decision and the majority of the comments were nothing but rude. I'm a total people pleaser so it was hard for me to stick by my decision, but when I finally did, everything was ten times easier. If you choose a destination wedding know ahead of time that you are asking a lot of your guests and have to be totally understanding if someone can't make it - but don't let them guilt you into changing your decision.

Troy and Audrey took full advantage of their destination and did a "trash the dress" session the next day. These two are officially the cutest.
